Milo Jewett House

A two story, Italianate style home constructed for merchant, Milo P Jewett of the Jewett and Sherman company. Milo P Jewett helped to establish Vassar College in New York in 1861 and was the first president of the college. In 1864 he resigned and he moved to Milwaukee in 1867 where he established his firm with Sterling S Sherman. The firm was sold in 1977. Both men were also involved with the establishment of the Milwaukee Female College. For many years the building housed the Swedish Consulate.
