Building History Detail
Bell Telephone Building

A 317-foot tall headquarters for the phone company built in a mixture of gothic and tudor styles. When it was finished in 1917 the telephone exchange was an eight story building. The expansion started in 1923 and finished in 1924 made it thirteen stories with a tower that reached an additional three stories. Common Council approval of an increased building height allowed for the addition of an extra three stories in 1930 making the building 16 stories tall with an additional 3-story tower. The building was constructed with steel and an exterior of light red brick. The building dimensions are 120x120 feet.
